Venturing into space has no longer been a distant dream for mankind for years, and it is believed that putting tourists in orbit on a regular basis is likely to happen soon. In my opinion, this scenario has both good and bad implications.
On the one hand, operating commercial space flights is beneficial in terms of economy and education. First, this novel area of tourism, which welcomes adventurous souls ready to explore new frontiers, will attract a great deal of business investment from entrepreneurs around the world and create more jobs. For example, companies would hire skilled workers to build spacecraft components and run the production line. Second, the growth of space travel industry also encourages more science teaching and learning. That is, if journeying into space became a common occurrence, more students would be inspired to study engineering, pursue scientific research, and develop better technologies to respond to the rising demands of this avenue.
On the other hand, space tourism may have negative impacts on public spending and the environment. One obvious issue is that it will cost a lot of money to establish space programs and manufacture spaceships while its operation always involves a certain degree of risk to travellers’ life. This means it is advisable to direct a country’s finances to providing healthcare to the sick and tackling poverty. Another problem is the potential damage to the Earth’s atmosphere. To be more specific, a large amount of natural resource such as fuel would be wasted in launching the rockets and keeping them function in space. Moreover, emissions from rocket flights could increase the global temperatures and speed up climate change.
In conclusion, planning frequent trips to space for tourists is a matter with both benefits and drawbacks, so much consideration of the consequences is required if people decide to make it a reality in the future.
